President Barack Obama’s Policy on HIV/ AIDS

Just as the new President of the United States Barack Obama took his oath of office, a lot of changes have become noticeable right away. One of which is the new interactive version of the White House website, where the Obama administration posts its agenda in the next four years.

President Obama emphasizes that his administration would focus, among other things, on civil rights. Obama, a civil rights lawyer himself, and his team lay out their plans in promoting economic opportunity, working to improve the country’s education and health system, or protecting voters’ rights.

The new administration leaves no stone unturned with its advocacy on civil liberties. Aside from revealing their plans to combat employment discrimination and end racial profiling, the White House website also states their support for women and the Lesbian, Gays, Bisexuals, and Transgendered (LGBT) community. With the issue of HIV/ AIDS becoming an integral topic among the LGBT, sometimes for the wrong reasons, President Obama is willing to confront the stigma (often tied to homophobia) that continues to surround the illness.

There are other agendas surrounding the issue of HIV/ AID that are also stated in the web site. One of the administration’s main objectives is to promote AIDS prevention. In President Obama’s first year of office, he intends to develop and being to implement a comprehensive HIV/ AIDS strategy that covers all federal agencies. This strategy will be designed with an aim to reduce HIV infections while increasing access to care and reducing HIV-related health disparities.

President Obama also supports common-sense approaches in dealing with the issue of HIV/ AIDS such as providing sex education at an appropriate age, combating infection within the prison communities through education and contraception, as well as distributing contraceptives through the public health system. The administration also supports lifting the federal ban on needle exchange, one of the primary risk factors of HIV infection among drug users, which can dramatically reduce infection rates.

The White House website also states that the administration aims to empower women to prevent getting infected with HIV and AIDS. The percentage of American women diagnosed with AIDS has quadrupled over the last 20 years. Nowadays, more than a quarter of all new HIV/ AIDS diagnoses are for women.

Because of this, President Obama introduces the Microbicide Development Act, which aims to accelerate the development of products that empower women in battling the illness. Microbicide refers to products that are being developed, which women can apply topically to prevent transmission of HIV and other related infections.

  24. Thanks for the interesting things you have disclosed in your short article. One thing I want to touch upon is that FSBO interactions are built with time. By launching yourself to owners the first end of the week their FSBO is usually announced, before the masses commence calling on Mon, you build a good interconnection. By giving them methods, educational materials, free accounts, and forms, you become a good ally. Through a personal desire for them as well as their scenario, you create a solid relationship that, most of the time, pays off once the owners opt with a broker they know and also trust — preferably you actually.
