The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta reported that the number of HIV/ AIDS diagnoses from 2001 to 2006 among African-American men who have sex with men have increased by 12.4 percent.
However, what is more alarming is that a 93.1 percent increase occurred among black men between the ages 13 to 24 years. The findings are part of the analysis of trends that CDCP-Atlanta officials conducted among men who have sex with men in 33 American states. The report was published in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report dating June 30, 2008.
The study showed that an estimated total of 214,379 people were diagnosed with HIV/ AIDS. Of these diagnoses, 46 percent were in men who have sex with men and 4 percent were in men who have sex with men who engaged in illicit injection-drug use. Among males who were observed, men who have sex with men accounted for 97,577, or 63 percent of cases.
